Welsh Photographer at French Celtic Festival

Joann Randles is representing Wales as a Welsh photographer at French Celtic Festival, exhibiting her work at the prestigious Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany.

The Festival Interceltique de Lorient is the world’s largest Celtic gathering, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The event brings together Celtic nations including Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Galicia for a celebration of music, dance, craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

As a Welsh photographer at French Celtic Festival, Joann is showcasing a powerful collection of work that captures the spirit of Welsh life. Her images explore traditional folk dance, coracle fishing, rural communities and national dress, highlighting the richness and authenticity of Welsh culture.

Originally working in film and television, Joann transitioned into fine art photography during the Covid pandemic. Drawing inspiration from classical masters such as Rembrandt and Leonardo da Vinci, she uses dramatic lighting and minimal post-production to create images reminiscent of Renaissance paintings while remaining true to her subjects.

Her work has previously been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Exhibiting at Lorient marks another significant milestone in her mission to place Wales firmly on the international cultural map.

Through this exhibition, Joann continues to celebrate Wales’ vibrant heritage and share its stories with a global audience.
