A curated collection of photographic work by Welsh photographer Joann Randles.
This exhibition invites you to experience a body of work that celebrates the beauty, character and depth of Welsh life and culture.
Every image you see here holds a story. Many of these stories are at risk of fading in our fast-paced modern world, something Joann is deeply committed to preserving through her photography.
“Hiraeth” is a Welsh word that reflects the essence of Joann’s work. It speaks to emotion, longing, and a deep connection to people, places and heritage.
Through her lens, moments are grounded in atmosphere, capturing not just what is seen, but what is felt.
In recent years, Joann’s documentation of Welsh culture has reached audiences around the world. Her images often resonate through a shared sense of memory and nostalgia.
Several of the works featured here were previously exhibited at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, and are now shown at the National Botanic Garden of Wales a place with deep personal significance to the artist.
For Joann, “Hiraeth” is about recognising what we have, what is changing and what may one day be lost. While the word itself may not translate fully, its feeling is universal.
